XXV, Number 1 Advocacy News Do You, Or Someone You Know, Need Health Insurance? Due
to recent expansions in MA state funding, every child in Massachusetts
under age 19 can get free health
insurance! Many individuals and families, even those who already have
health insurance, are also eligible to attain supplemental health insurance or assistance in paying for it! The
Child Care Resource Center’s Health Access Project can explain the state
sponsored health care programs to you, and if eligible, help you to
enroll. For more information,

Access”). Garnering
Better Access
More
than two years ago, the Child Care Resource Center created the Health
Access Project to provide community education about affordable health care
options, and support individuals and families in obtaining that care. Health
Access Project staff work with families, individuals, and community
agencies throughout the state to provide consumer education and
information about health care options.
While Massachusetts is very fortunate to be able to offer several
health care programs for families and individuals, the wide range of
offerings often confuse consumers. That’s where the Health Access Project can help.
They can explain the various programs and options and walk families
through the entire enrollment process. They can also advocate for families
whose applications have been denied. The
project staff also works with community agencies to explain state
sponsored health care programs and ensure that the health care needs of
their clients and constituents are being met.
They provide written materials, offer trainings for agency staff on
the various programs, and encourage refer
families to the Health Access Program for assistance. For more information about the Health Access Project, please call our Health Access Line at (617) 547-1063 ext. 295. CCRC’s
Health Access Project Reaching More Families! At
the recent close of Fiscal Year 2000, CCRC’s Health Access Project had
much to celebrate! Since
1998, project staff have made significant inroads into communities across
the state by participating in community events, holding trainings for
staff at human services agencies, as well as continuous mailings, press
releases, and word of mouth. Service
delivery numbers have increased dramatically from last year.
During FY 2000: they
have quadrupled the number of families and individuals they spoke with,
tripled the number of state sponsored health care applications they
initiated, and doubled the number of families and individuals they were
able to have accepted for state sponsored health care programs.
These
efforts and accomplishments did not go unnoticed. In June, the Health Access Project was awarded continued
funding from the Department of Public Health and the Division of Medical
Assistance. Plans for this
year include continuing existing outreach practices and expanding the
project by working with families and individuals on health maintenance
issues. Having a health
insurance card is not enough. The
Health Access Projects will support families and individuals so that they
are able to form positive relationships with their health care provider(s)
and develop their health maintenance plan. If
you would like more information on the Health Access Project, please call
Stacey Taylor at (617) 547-1063 ext. 271.
