Did You Know CCRC Annual Business Meeting On
June 22, 2000, CCRC held its 29th Annual Business Meeting in
conference space generously donated by MIT.
Both members of the local community and CCRC staff attended the
meeting led by Board President Karen Leibold. CCRC’s
Executive Director Marta Rosa provided a synopsis of the year’s work.
She noted the importance of joint efforts toward success, and
remarked that “our commitment to serve all families, our dedication to
quality and our attention to team work allows us to reflect on this past
fiscal year and feel proud.” Rosa
went on to state that “The challenges are many for all of us in the
non-profit sector; the resources not nearly enough to fill the critical
work we do but together we can continue to make a difference.” Guest
speaker Margaret Blood spoke stirringly about early care and education.
She stressed that child care is not as foremost in voters’ hearts
as many professionals in the field believe it should be.
She identified education as a link toward gaining importance for
child care as a voter’s issue. She
also commented on the paradox of survey results which show that many
believe time with children is far more important than work, but that in
the case of single mothers, work is most important.
Her convincing depiction of the contradicting priorities around
this issue aptly illustrated the continuing need for information about
quality child care and early education. The meeting concluded with brief remarks by CCRC Board Member and pediatrician, Dr. George Askew. NACCRRA
