Family News The Health Access Project completes another successful year! In 1999 the Children’s Defense Fund cited CCRC’s Health Access Project in its “What’s Working” reports as a successful outreach and enrollment project. Since that time the Project has made great strides and has been further cited for its innovative ideas and practices to get children and families enrolled in Medicaid, State Children’s Health Insurance Programs (S-CHIP) and other health care programs here in Massachusetts. Since the Project’s inception in Fiscal Year 1998, Health Access Project staff have worked with over 1100 new clients from across the state and have helped more than 130 families successfully enroll in free and reduced cost health insurance programs. But the work of the Project does not end once a family or individual is enrolled into a health insurance plan. Project staff provide on-going counseling and technical assistance to make certain that families use the preventive and acute-care services that they have access to and that they stay enrolled to ensure continuity of care for themselves and their children. I n an effort to educate as many families as possible about affordable health care options, Project staff conduct trainings for human services agencies so that they are aware of available resources and can help refer clients to services as needed. Last year, Project staff trained 121 staff at 10 agencies around the state. To date the Project has provided training to more than 400 staff at 24 agencies. As we enter a new fiscal year, Project staff are excited to continue their work and look forward to new successes!
